Alexander the Great, also known as Alexander III of Macedon, was one of history’s most celebrated military leaders. Born in 356 BC, he ascended to the throne of Macedon at the age of 20 after the assassination of his father, king Philip II. Alexander embarked on an ambitious campaign to expand his empire, which ultimately became one of the largest in ancient history, stretching from Greece to Egypt and into the Indian subcontinent.
